Henry Martin says new Mexico manager Jimmy Lozano has brought a “very drastic change”
The striker for El Tri spoke about the work new manager Jimmy Lozano has done during the Gold Cup.
The Mexican National Team has seen a huge and very welcome change of scenery with the arrival of Jimmy Lozano as the leader of the side. After the sacking of Diego Cocca, Lozano has led El Tri to the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup where they will play against Costa Rica on 8 July.
Ahead of the game, Henry Martin highlighted the work of the new coach and assured that under his orders things have changed drastically. Martin also mentioned the future of the coach, as it is not known whether or not he will continue once the Gold Cup concludes.
‘Jimmy is doing things really well’
“Regardless of it we win or not, there has been a drastic change, the atmosphere in the hotel, with ourselves, we are together, we stayed for ages talking, playing, there has been a huge change; Jimmy is doing things really well”, the striker said.
At the same time, the América forward asked for patience regarding Lozano and pleaded for people not to overreact with any result: “The Lambor-Jimmy are things that [the press] make up. You win one game and they talk about being a candidate to take the team to the World Cup; lose and he has to go. It’s not like that: there will be ups and downs, we have to believe in the process and you can see the changes. Let’s be patient, things will come together little by little”, he added.
Martin opens up on fan violence
As for the violence in the stands against Qatar, where one fan was stabbed at Levi’s Stadium, Henry said: “It’s a very sad situation. Us, after the game against the USMNT, thought it was to do with the fact we lost. The problem is that it’s happening every game. The other day I saw that a woman was hit, that can’t happen. Now you see even people getting bloody faces, the blood is dripping. You can’t have that.”
