On Thursday 21 December, Club América will celebrate their Apertura 2023 title with a friendly against Barcelona in Dallas, Texas. Having recently won their 14th title at the Azteca Stadium, striker Henry Martín spoke about what the match will mean for the team as they close out the year.

“A great game... what better way to celebrate the 14th title than [a game] against Barcelona. For us and the fans, it is very important to experience these moments. Since we landed, the people at the airport are talking to you in Spanish and asking for photos. It feels like I’ve arrived back in Mexico,” he said in an interview with TUDN.

Ámerica support in Mexico

La Bomba also dedicated a few words to the fans, saying he was grateful for the support they gave the side throughout the campaign and in the final against Tigres. The América goalscorer mentioned that there is real satisfaction and appreciation amongst the members of the squad.

He added: “The truth is that the fans were special. This time they surprised us a lot and I think they were even surprised themselves because of everything we experienced, the way things turned out, and against a great rival who fought until the last minute.

“We are very grateful to them, we are very happy to have reciprocated that support, those demands that they have always put on us.”
