The Mexico national team is ready to begin their World Cup adventure as they play against Poland today in their World Cup opener. El Tri arrives in Qatar with the mission of advancing past the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, but they need a positive result against the European side.

Henry Martín will lead Mexico’s attack

Mexico coach Gerardo Tata Martino, has made it clear that Raúl Jiménez will be his main striker during his tenure, but the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward is far from fully fit after suffering a groin injury in late-August. It was expected that Martino was going to start Rogelio Funes Mori instead, but now Henry Martín is poised to lead Mexico’s attack against Poland.

The Club América striker is expected to play alongside Hirving Lozano and Alexis Vega in the attacking trio in the Group C World Cup opener for the Mexico national team on Wednesday. Henry Martín had a breakout tournament with América during the Apertura 2022 campaign and he scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 17 appearances across all competitions.

The good news for Martino is that if needed Raúl Jiménez can come off the bench to help Mexico during the second half and start his road to reaching full fitness. Mexico needs to get a positive result against Poland if they want to aspire to qualify to the knockout stages with game 2 coming against the highly fancied Argentina.
