The strategist made it clear that they were to blame for the disaster and that the expulsion of Quiñones was not.

The Tigers crashed to a 2-1 defeat to Puebla on the penultimate day of the 2022 Apertura, a result that complicates their chances of making the play-offs, but coach Miguel Herrera insists they are still in the fight.

Herrera is aware however, that securing a place in the top four is no longer in their hands and means they must win their final game against Atlético de San Luis.

“We stopped doing what we were doing. We need just three points, we are not out of the race, we are there, in the fight. It doesn’t depend only on us, we have to get the points and wait for what happens with those above us to see if we can sneak in,” he said after the game.

Herrera made it clear that the only ones to blame for the defeat was themselves and didn’t want to enter into the refereeing controversy, although he added that he wasn’t happy with Luis Quiñones’ sending off.

It was annoying, but we have ourselves to blame, we cannot give away a goal after 50 seconds. Puebla it is a combative team, and we gift them with needless expulsions, one was clear, the other one wasn’t,“ he added.

As for Florian Thauvin who was sent off in stoppage-time, Herrara stated that he will talk to the footballer in private, and was disappointed that the player was sent off after spending so little time on the pitch. “We’ll wait to see what kind of suspension he will receive, later we’ll talk about it, the board will take action and we’ll talk internally,” he said.
