Update:

Real Oviedo has finally secured its long-awaited promotion back to LaLiga and will compete in Spain’s top flight next season. The club’s success came with a strong Liga MX connection, featuring head coach Veljko Paunović and players Paulino de la Fuente, Santiago Colombatto and Federico Viñas.

Now, Viñas is making headlines again - this time amid a potential return to Mexico to link back up with Club León.

According to Paco Montes, a journalist with close ties to León, the club’s front office is in talks with Oviedo, which shares the same ownership group, following the end of Viñas’ loan spell in Spain.

If Oviedo opts not to keep him, the Uruguayan striker is expected to return to León and become part of the club’s revamped project under new head coach Eduardo Berizzo. León is looking to bounce back after a promising start to the last Liga MX tournament ended in disappointment.

Contrary to earlier speculation, León does not plan to part ways with forward Jhonder Cádiz. Instead, the team is exploring a two-striker setup, leveraging its attacking depth with options like Edgar Guerra, Stiven Mendoza, and, of course, the maestro himself - James Rodríguez.

If Viñas’s move is finalized, he will leave Asturias having made 19 appearances for Oviedo, scoring just once.

His most productive stint came with León, where he tallied 16 goals and five assists in 36 matches - a stark contrast to his time with Club América, where he recorded 24 goals and four assists across 122 games.
