Highest MLS market values: Messi, Almada, Torres...
At 36, Inter Miami forward Leo Messi continues to lead the way, according to Transfermarkt.
MLS is facing a new start to the season in which teams are putting together their squads in a month full of moves. Before the end of the year, and as a preview ahead of the winter transfer window, Transfermarkt has published a list of players with the highest market value in the league.
After his arrival in July, Leo Messi has become the most valuable player in the history of MLS with an estimated price of €35 million. The Inter Miami man is also the highest-priced player in the world over the age of 34.
The rest of the Top 5 highest-value players in MLS are South Americans. The latest player to enter this exclusive group is Cucho Hernández, who has seen his value increase after winning the league title and being voted MVP of the MLS Playoffs at the age of 24.
Top 5 market values
- Leo Messi (€35 million)
- Thiago Almada (€25 million)
- Facu Torres (€14 million)
- Cucho Hernández (€13 million)
- Sebastián Driussi (€12 million)
Something that shows the competitive equality of MLS is a very curious statistic revealed in the report: all the players in the Top 10 play for different teams. You would have to go to 11th and 12th to see the two highest-valued players who share a club (Acosta and Vázquez at Cincinnati FC).
