Ciudad de México Update:

Guadalajara striker Armando “Hormiga” González has officially entered elite territory in Mexican soccer. His latest performance against Monterrey — capped by yet another goal — confirmed what fans have been seeing all season: he’s playing at a spectacular level.

His strike inside the “Steel Giant” didn’t just help Chivas; it also pushed him further up the scoring charts in the 2026 Clausura, solidifying his status as one of the most dangerous forwards in the league.

Chicharito’s legacy at Chivas

When you talk about goals at Chivas, one name always comes up: Javier “Chicharito” Hernández. In his first spell with the club, he became a fan favorite thanks to his scoring touch and unforgettable performances.

Between the 2009 Apertura and the 2010 Bicentenario, Chicharito racked up an impressive 21 goals in a single soccer year — a benchmark that stood for years as the gold standard for Chivas strikers.

González breaks the record

But right now, the spotlight belongs to “Hormiga.” Armando González has officially surpassed that historic mark, reaching 22 goals across the 2026 Apertura and 2026 Clausuraa new club record.

Leading the Clausura 2026 Golden Boot race

On top of the milestone, González sits atop the Clausura 2026 scoring table with 10 goals, underscoring just how vital he’s become to Chivas’ attack.

What makes his run even more impressive is the timing: his goal against Monterrey came in just Matchday 12. With several games still ahead, González has plenty of room to extend his lead — and continue carving out his place in Chivas history.

Everything points to “Hormiga” becoming the new offensive reference point for the club, and his story is still being written.
