Update:

Liverpool player Luis Díaz limped off with a knee injury in his side’s defeat to Arsenal in October and he returned to training during the squad’s training base in Dubai last Tuesday after two months out.

Just days into the camp to prepare for the return of the Premier League on 26 December, the Colombia international returned to the UK after complaining of discomfort in the same knee, according to The Athletic.

The 25-year-old has undergone surgery to repair damage to his lateral collateral ligament and is expected to be sidelined for up to three months.

Jota still sidelined

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has described Diaz’s latest setback as “a proper smash in the face”.

Fellow forward Diogo Jota isn’t expected to play again until late January or even February due to a calf injury that ruled him out of the World Cup, meaning Klopp will have to rely on the attacking trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Núñez for the return to domestic action.

Núñez will link up with the squad in Dubai today (Monday) after having a week off after a disappointing World Cup with Uruguay.
