He’s done it. Harry Kane ran onto teammate Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s layoff and calmly slotted past Ederson to give Tottenham the lead in their Premier League clash against Manchester City. A routine goal to mark a special occasion for the attacker as he celebrated his 200th goal in the English top flight and became Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer, breaking the record set by Jimmy Greaves which had stood since 1970.

How many players have scored more than 200 Premier League goals?

The 29-year-old notched his 19th goal of the season in all competitions and his 17th in the league to move onto 267 Spurs goals, eclipsing Greaves’ tally. Kane has now become just the third player to score 200 goals in the Premier League after Alan Shearer, who scored 260 times for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United between 1992 and 2006, and Wayne Rooney, whose 208 strikes came between 2002 and 2018 for Everton and Manchester Untied.

When did Harry Kane make his Tottenham debut? When did he score his first goal?

Kane’s Spurs career got off to a fairly slow start as he made his first start in the Premier League against Sunderland in April 2014, almost three years after his debut for the club, which came in a Europa League qualifier against Scottish club Hearts in August 2011. His first six appearances all came in that competition and he scored his first goal in December 2011 against Shamrock Rovers.

Uninspiring loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City did little to suggest he would score 20 Premier League goals let alone 200, but in his first full season as regular first-team player at White Hart Lane, he scored 21 times in the league and 31 in all competitions. He’s not stopped since.

What has been Kane’s best goalscoring season?

Kane’s best goalscoring season came in the 2017-18 campaign, in which he rattled in 30 goals in 37 league matches. Despite that, he failed to win the Premier League golden boot, finishing in second spot behind Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, who scored 32 times. Kane added a further 11 across the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Which trophies has Kane won with Spurs?

This is not an attempt at a wind-up, Spurs fans, rather the age-old question that Kane doubters have been asking for as long as we can all remember. And even Kane himself, as proved by the fact that the made his desire to leave the club in pursuit of trophies clear in the summer of 2021. That, of course, never materialised, and here we are.

Kane has picked up several runners-up medals during his time at Spurs, twice losing in the League Cup final (2014-15 and 2020-21) and once in the Champions League final, to Liverpool in 2018-19. Tottenham are, however, still in the Champions League and FA Cup this season, so there is some hope that he could finally get some silverware to go with his goals.
