Kylian Mbappé has confirmed football’s worst kept secret and announced that he plans to leave Paris Saint Germain and end his ‘adventure’ with the club in a few weeks time.

“This is my last year at Paris Saint Germain. I will not stay on and I will end my adventure in a few weeks time. I will play my last match at the Parc des Princes this Sunday,” said the 25-year old in his video address posted on his social media platforms.

There has been widespread media speculation that the forward will move to Real Madrid. Mbappe did not mention the Spanish champions in his video but confirmed he would leave France.

“It’s hard, it’s hard. I did not think it would be as hard as it was to announce this, to leave my country, Ligue 1 - a championship which I have always known. But I think I needed this, the need for a new challenge after this year,” he said.

Mbappé’s 2023-24 season with PSG.

The Frenchman has now bagged 43 goals in 46 appearances in the 2023/24 season to date, making him the first player in the top five European leagues to reach the milestone figure of 40 goals this year. Eight of those have come in the Champions League, meaning that he is currently the top scorer in Europe’s top club competition.

Last year Mbappé became PSG’s all-time record scorer, overtaking Edison Cavani at the top of the charts. The legendary Uruguayan had scored 200 goals for the French club but Mbappé has now left him far behind, scoring his 255th goal for the club in the Ligue 1 win over Lorient on 24 April.

The striker will be looking to add to his season tally of 255 goals for PSG and add a French Cup winners medal to his PSG haul. In his seven years at Parc des Princes, Mbappé has won six Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups and the now defunct French League Cup.

After Sunday’s game (at home to Toulouse), PSG will complete their league campaign with away games at Nice and at relegation-threatened Metz, before the striker brings the curtain down on his with with PSG in the Coupe de France final against Lille at the Stade de France.
