EURO 2024
How many penalties has Cristiano Ronaldo missed in his career?
The former Real Madrid icon was denied from the spot by Jan Oblak in Portugal’s Euro 2024 game against Slovenia, but scored in a penalty shootout.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s wait for a goal at Euro 2024 continues after he missed a penalty in the first half of extra time during Portugal’s round of 16 tie against Slovenia, which the Euro 2016 winners eventually won 3-0 in a shootout.
After a goalless 90 minutes, it looked as if Roberto Martínez’s team were about to edge in front with half time approaching in the first additional period after Diogo Jota was taken down in the box.
Ronaldo in tears after Portugal penalty miss
After a lengthy wait which included a VAR check, Ronaldo stepped up from 12 yards but was denied by a superb stop by Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who dived to his left to keep the Al Nassr attacker’s well-struck effort out.
The incident took place right at the end of the first extra period of 15 minutes, after which the Portuguese was seen in tears on the touchline as his country prepared for the second half.
In his career, the 39-year-old has taken 194 penalties, scoring on 164 occasions and missing 30 times. That means he has an overall conversion rate from the spot of 84.5%.

Ronaldo redeemed himself somewhat in the shootout (not included in the numbers), scoring Portugal’s first penalty. However, goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the real hero, saving Slovenia’s first three spot-kicks to help his team to victory.
