Columbus Crew and LAFC went head-to-head in the MLS Cup final at Lower.com Field on Saturday, the culmination of a thrilling MLS Cup season.

Wilfried Nancy’s side went into the game as slight favorites and they put in a dominating performance against the reigning champions. Goals from Cucho Hernandez and Yaw Yeboah gave the Crew a commanding lead at the break and they saw out the win, despite a late goal from Denis Bouanga.

The Crew had the benefit of home advantage, a determining factor in the last four of five finals, where the home team has won.

How many times has Columbus Crew won the MLS Cup?

Columbus Crew have been crowned champions of the 2023 MLS season. Saturday’s triumph was the Ohio team’s third MLS Cup in franchise history.

The first title for the franchise came in 2008 under the guidance of Sigi Schmid, beating New York Red Bulls in a final that finished 3-1 with goals from Alejandro Moreno, Chad Marshall and Fankie Hedjuk,

It then took 12 long years for the Crew to win MLS again. The drought was broken in 2020 against Seattle Sounders. Caleb Porter led Columbus to their second title with a 3-0 win over the Sounders with a brace from Lucas Zelarayan and another goal from Derrick Etienne.
