The conclusion of the 2023 Leagues Cup is always upon us, with Lionel Messi looking to win a trophy with Inter Miami quicker than even he could have imagined. The 2022 World Cup winner will lead his new team, statistically the worst team in MLS this year, into the final against Nashville SC at Geodis Park after scoring nine goals in his first six matches for the Florida side.

Inter Miami confident after win in Philadelphia

Now, Messi is on the verge of his first final in the United States, having made the move to North America only a matter of weeks ago. And Inter Miami will head into the clash in supremely confident mood after a resounding 4-1 semi-final victory at the home of Philadelphia Union, who have been one of the strongest teams in MLS in recent seasons and had lost only one of their previous 39 matches at Subaru Park.

In theory, Nashville should also prove tough opponents in their own backyard, where they have won 10 of the last 12 games. However, they have also lost two of their last four matches in Tennessee, which will give David Beckham’s side encouragement they hardly need at the moment.

Which finals has Messi played in?

Messi has played in a total of 41 finals for Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain in Argentina, notably also being forced to sit out 2005-06 Champions League final due to injury (although he did receive a winner’s medal because of his participation in the competition).
