How much are David Beckham’s golden boots expected to sell for at an auction?
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, now Inter Miami co-owner, wore the boots on his 100th cap for England.
David Beckham is one of the most iconic figures in the world of soccer and beyond. Now thriving as co-owner of Inter Miami, where he used his considerable influence to take Lionel Messi to MLS, he made his name as one of the best crossers of the ball on the planet for Manchester United, Real Madrid and England, while also representing LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain towards the end of his career.
Beckham’s golden boots on 100th England cap
One of the faces of Adidas from early on his career, he was made a special pair of boots by the German sportswear manufacturer to mark his 100th cap for England, which was a friendly against France in Paris on 26 March 2008. The golden Adidas Predators were embroidered with the names of Beckham’s then three children on them and will be auctioned by Graham Budd Auctions in Northamptonshire on 5 December.
David Convery, head of sports memorabilia at UK-based auction house, expects the boots to fetch between £8,000 (just over $10,000) and £10,000 (around $12,500), with the starting bid set at £4,600 pounds (circa $5,800).
Inter Miami co-owner “started soccer’s ‘style revolution’”
“David Beckham is not only an iconic player, but you could also argue that he started the ‘style revolution’ with this type of golden boot,” Convery told British newspaper The Sun.
While black boots were the norm when the former England captain started out, by the time his playing career came to an end, coloured boots had become increasingly popular and are now commonplace in soccer.
“These boots are already attracting attention on a global stage and we wouldn’t be surprised if they reached or even went beyond their estimated price,” Convery added.
