Megan Rapinoe’s soccer career is about to come to an end. After almost two decades of service to US soccer, the American forward is set for her final match with the USWNT. According to the official website selling tickets for the match, ticket prices to see Rapinoe and the USA at Soldier Field in Chicago range from $25 to $350.
Over her hugely successful career, Rapinoe has become a social icon beyond the soccer pitches of the United States. She is one of the most talented players of her generation and also a leader on social issues like equal pay, LGBTQ+ and gender equality. This led to her being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in July 2022. Rapinoe received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden. The medal is considered the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“Beyond the World Cup titles and the Olympic medals, Megan is a champion for [an] essential American truth that everyone - everyone - is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect,” Biden said at the time.
A farewell in style
The farewell will be a celebration for one of soccer’s greats. Those attending the match at Soldier Field in Chicago will be able to purchase collector’s tickets at an additional cost of $14. The tickets will feature key moments in Rapinoe’s career, from her debut in 2006 to the finals of the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and her service with the USWNT.
Rapinoe to say goodbye
At the end of the match, match organisers plan to screen a video commemorating Rapinoe’s extensive and prolific career on the venue’s big screen. The player herself is expected to say a few words at the end of the match to bid farewell to her adoring fans.
