It’s official: Luis Suárez has signed for David Beckham’s Inter Miami, where he will link back up with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The veteran Uruguayan has signed a one-year contract with the MLS club with the option of an additional year.

What did Suárez say about signing for The Herons?

“I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve together with our shared ambition,” said Suárez.

The 36-year-old moves to Florida on the back of a fine season in Brazil with Grêmio, in which he scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists.

“I will give my all to bring joy to these great fans I’ve heard so much about while I wear Inter Miami colours, and look forward to reuniting with great friends and players. I’m also eager to meet my new teammates and coaches.”

How much will Luis Suárez earn at Inter Miami?

Although the details of Suárez’s deal with The Herons haven’t been officially disclosed, a number of reports have hinted at the numbers involved.

One suggestion is the Uruguay international will be paid a base salary of around $1.7 million plus guaranteed compensation, terms which are similar to the contract Busquets signed with Inter Miami in the summer.

However, the total annual package could be worth up to $10 million once a number of others factors are taken into consideration, including goal bonuses.

Will Suárez be a Designated Player?

It has, however, also been rumoured that Suárez may take the departed Josef Martínez’s spot as a Designated Player, which would alternatively allow him to earn around $4 million per season (another $4 million in guaranteed compensation would be added to that, totalling $8 million).

The base salary cap set by MLS for the 2023 season was €5.2 million, with an additional $1.9 million available in general allocation money.
