The winning team’s national association will pocket prize money of just over $4m after Sunday’s 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

Spain and England face off at Sydney’s Stadium Australia at 6am ET/3am PT, with both countries bidding to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

As part of a $110m prize-money pot announced by FIFA in March, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) or the Football Association (FA) will receive $4.29m from soccer’s global governing body if their team wins Sunday’s final. The runners-up will be paid $3.015m.

The 32 nations that qualified for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand were each guaranteed at least $1.56m for competing at the finals.

How much do men’s World Cup winners get?

While the overall prize fund for the 2023 Women’s World Cup represents a significant increase on previous editions of the event - just $30m was shared out between the participating countries in 2019 - it is still well below the pot for the men’s World Cup.

At Qatar 2022, $440m in prize money was distributed among the 32 teams taking part, with Argentina taking home $42m after lifting their third World Cup.

However, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has pledged to offer equal prize funds at the next men’s and women’s World Cups, which take place in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

“This is backed by our new commercial strategy with the implementation of a dedicated marketing concept for the women’s game and the Women’s World Cup in particular,” Infantino said in March.

How much are the winning Women’s World Cup players paid?

For the first time at the Women’s World Cup, FIFA has allocated performance-based fees for the players in 2023. The members of the winning squad are to be paid $270,000 each, while the beaten finalists are to receive $195,000 per player.

It remains unclear whether Spain and England’s players are also in line to be paid separate bonuses directly by their national associations. The RFEF did not respond when asked by the media outlet the Athletic, while the Lionesses are currently locked in a stand-off with the FA over the issue.

After fruitless pre-World Cup discussions with English soccer’s governing body, England’s players said in July that talks would resume after the tournament.

“We view the successful conclusion of these discussions, through player input and a transparent long‑term plan, as key for the growth of women’s football in England,” the squad said in a joint statement.
