How much prize money will Tigres or Chivas receive for winning the Liga MX Clausura 2023 final?

It’s been a while, but one of Tigres or Chivas will finally get their hands on the Liga MX title late on Sunday, with the two sides facing off in the Clausura 2023 final, the first leg of which will take place at Estadio Universitario on Thursday. For Los Auriazules, it’s a chance to win their first domestic trophy since 2019, while Guadalajara have had an even longer drought, with their last triumph coming all the way back in 2017.

As well as a shiny trophy to keen in the boardroom, and winners’ medals for each of the players involved, the team that comes out on top will have their names plastered all over the headlines, which may lead to extra marketing opportunities. They will also earn the added prestige that comes with nudging their way up the list of Mexico’s most successful clubs and perhaps even the extra pull to sign players that might not necessarily have been interested in joining before.

All of that (and probably a whole lot more), as well as prize money, which is what the moneymen and women at soccer clubs are really interested in. Of course, those marketing opportunities could lead to more cash coming in, while perhaps sponsorship deals could also be improved in order to reflect the newfound status as the nation’s ‘best’ club. But how much is directly handed over for winning a Liga MX title?

Mexican soccer prize money

The Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) has set aside 4.1 million pesos (circa $230,700) for the winners of each short tournament. Both then have the opportunity to add a further 1.7 million pesos (circa $95,650) to their coffers if they come out on top in the Campéon de Campeones clash, which sees the Apertura and Clausura winners go head-to-head in a one-off game.

The monetary prize for emerging victorious in Mexico’s third domestic competition, the Copa MX, is somewhere in the middle, with the cup winners taking home 2 million pesos (circa $124,400).
