Update:

FIFA, as Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday, will pay for Ronald Araújo’s injury until he recovers to full fitness. The Player Protection Program, approved in December 2018 and which will be in force until the end of the year, guarantees that the body will pay a maximum of €20,458 per day for an injured player with his national team as long as the loss lasts more than 28 days as will be the case with Araújo.

The figure paid by FIFA is calculated taking into account the player’s fixed salary, without taking into account the variables, and can reach almost €7.5 million. This amount is obtained by multiplying the €20,458 by 365 days in a year, the maximum paid per player by the Football Player Protection program, which allocates some €80 million a year.

Injured last Friday against Iran, Araújo has scheduled a meeting this Monday to decide whether to have surgery or not. The centre-back doesn’t want to miss out on the World Cup and prefers to follow a moderate treatment. At Barça, they prefer surgery because conservative treatments don’t have not offered the best results (Umtiti failed to recover and Ansu Fati hasn’t been at his best in nine months). FIFA will pay his salary (not the variables) during the injury, but what worries Barça is that the player, recently renewed until 2026, returns to the top.
