The curtain is coming down on the Liga MX Clausura 2023 regular season and with just two games left to play, we now know the names of the four sides that have secured a quarter-final place in the ‘liguilla’ and will avoid the ‘banana skin’ that is the repechaje/play-in round.

Toluca had little trouble in swatting Necaxa aside on Sunday with a 3-0 win and their triumph consolidated a fourth place final and the win also condemned current Apertura 2022 champions Pachuca to a place in the repechaje round.

Top four

Monterrey top the table with 40 points and just lost one game all season, Águilas del América and Chivas also advance in second and third places respectively with the Red Devils from Toluca completing the quartet of teams who advance to the quarter-final stage.

Season over

Necaxa, Xolos, Mazatlán, Juárez and Pumas have been eliminated and along with the ineligible Queretaro have time to reflect on a disappointing 2023 Clausura campaign and can begin their planning process ahead of the 2023 Apertura season which will get underway in mid July.
