Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona: game preview
With international week now over, LaLiga returns with a heavyweight matchday-30 clash, as leaders Barça seek to take a step closer to their 29th domestic championship. Hansi Flick’s men, who lost Raphinha to injury over the national-team break, head to the Spanish capital with a four-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid.
And after Madrid were beaten 2-1 to Real Mallorca earlier today, Barça now have the opportunity to establish an advantage of up to seven points over their arch rivals.
Barça are on a five-game winning streak in LaLiga, but visit a stadium where they were hammered on their most recent visit. In the Copa del Rey semifinals on Feb. 12, the Catalans were thumped 4-0, conceding all four goals before half time.
Meanwhile, Atlético are tasked with bouncing back from defeat to city rivals Madrid last time out in LaLiga. Mar. 22’s 3-2 loss at the Bernabéu saw Diego Simeone’s team drop to fourth in the table, one point behind Villarreal.
After this weekend’s meeting at the Metropolitano, Atlético and Barça collide twice more over the next week and a half. On Apr. 8, Los Rojiblancos visit the Blaugrana at Camp Nou in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals; six days later, the teams are to play the return in Madrid.
