LIGA MX

How would the Liga MX table look with the European format?

If Mexican soccer used the same format as the main leagues in Europe, the fight for the title would be even closer.

The regular stage of the Liga MX Clausura 2023 is coming to an end with matchday 15 of the tournament taking place this weekend. Some clubs have stepped up the pace to increase their chances of remaining in the top four positions - those that give direct entry to the liguilla, while others are aiming to sneak into the playoffs place or edge away from the bottom places. If the Liga MX used the same format as Europe’s main leagues, the fight for the title would be closer and more exciting with only three games left to play.

If the tournament was played over 34 fixtures instead of 17, Monterrey would continue to be the overall leaders on 69 points. América would appear in second place with 65 points - fully immersed in the battle for the championship with Rayados during the remaining three matches of the Clausura 2023.

Even though they all enjoyed two good campaigns, Pachuca, Toluca and Tigres would remain in the top five places but no longer with any chance of finishing top. Meanwhile, Chivas would have 47 points and Cruz Azul would be just below them on 45.

However, Pumas would be extremely compromised in the lower part of the standings and just one point away from qualifying for the playoffs, while Mazatlán and Querétaro would be relegated.
