El Salvador fought head-to-head against the United States men’s national team on Monday night at Exploria Stadium in the final match day of Group D of the CONCACAF Nations League. ‘La Selecta’ had the USMNT against the ropes, but Ricardo Pepi came to the rescue with a late goal in the second half to win the game for the home side.

This result was enough for the United States to advance to the Final Four of the tournament and eliminate El Salvador. Regardless of the result, the head coach of ‘La Selecta,’ Hugo Pérez, was happy with the way his team played against the United States and he sent a message to the fans that were outside the stadium.

The promise to El Salvador

“First of all, I want to thank all of you for the support you provide to the team,” said Hugo Pérez to a group of fans outside the Exploria stadium. “There is one very important thing I want you to know. We will do everything possible to qualify for the World Cup. This is for you guys,” added the head coach of El Salvador.

‘La Selecta’ has a good opportunity to return to the World Cup for the first time since 1982 as the United States, Mexico and Canada will be co-hosting the next tournament, meaning that they will not need to participate in the qualifiers and there will be five spots available to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
