“I can’t see Cristiano staying at United” - Dion Dublin
Ex-Manchester United striker Dion Dublin believes that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, possibly to return to Spain or Italy.
Brighton dealt Manchester United a fresh blow on Saturday, serving them a 4-0 thrashing - a result which means they have no chances left of logging fourth place and now where they will finish the season will depend on what West Ham do. If David Moyes’ team win all three of their remaining games, they will finish sixth and United, seventh (or even eighth if they lose to Crystal Palace and Wolves win their remaining games, although that’s unlikely). Such a scenario would leave United playing in the Europa Conference League next season...
At the start of the campaign, nobody could have imagined that United would end up in such a situation - especially after they had strengthened the squad with new signings Raphaël Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano’s return to his former home hasn’t worked out as he might have hoped it’s probably the most complicated season he has endured in his entire career. But not because he has not met his own high standards - he is on 24 goals between the Premier League and Champions League. Along with Bruno Fernandes and De Gea, he is one of the few players who has delivered and kept United afloat.
Returning to Manchester has been such a disappointment that Cristiano is seriously considering moving on just one year after leaving Turin to join his old club. Former United striker Dion Dublin gave his opinion on Cristiano’s future on Sky Sports where he is a pundit.
“I don’t know where Cristiano Ronaldo will go. Will he go back to Italy or Spain? I have no idea, but I don’t think he’ll stay at United unless something incredible happens. I think United will be lost without him. To be honest, I can’t see any reason why he’d want to stay. Unless the new coach says that he has 300 million and he’s going to sign superstars. If the opposite happens, I think he’ll leave,” Dublin said. Considering the losses that the club has made over the past 12 months, plus the earning lost from not being in the Champions League, it’s unlikely that United will have the means to attract big-name players or the cash to sign them.
