Midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are expected to add new impetus for Manchester United as the Red Devils compete on three fronts for the remainder of the season.

Erik Ten Hag has been low on midfield options in recent weeks due to the absences of two elite performers. Casemiro was hit with a four-game Premier League suspension after receiving his second red card of the season against Southampton; while Eriksen has been out since picking up an ankle injury in February.

Casemiro has now served his suspension and Eriksen was back on the pitch for the final minutes against Everton last weekend, meaning that both are likely to be in contention for Thursday’s Europa League tie with Sevilla.

Speaking to the UTD Podcast, Eriksen outlined what he and the Brazilian can add to the United midfield.

“In football terms, we will probably bring a bit of calmness, a bit of movement of the ball on the pitch and a bit of awareness in the middle,” Eriksen said.

I think we add a bit of control to the game. He’s a lovely guy, and, at the same time, he’s a winner, and he’s a lovely player.

“And he’s bringing a lot more trophies than me!”

Bruno Fernandes likely to move further forward

Due to the pair’s absence, Bruno Fernandes has been deployed in a deeper midfield position in recent weeks in what has been described as a ‘quarter-back role’. He was awarded Man of the Match in last weekend’s win over Everton.

Fernandes range of passing allowed Manchester United to break quickly and helped utilise their pacey attacking options, but the Portuguese playmaker is expected to move further forward with the return of Eriksen and Casemiro.

Speaking ahead of the Sevilla tie, Fernandes said he was delighted to see the return of the two midfielders ahead of the crucial run-in.

It is really good to have everybody back, finally, so there are more problems for the manager,” Fernandes joked.

“There are better solutions for the team. Everyone is ready with different qualities so that will help in different moments of the season now, getting into the end of the season with different games, different teams that you play against.

“We will need everyone available to end the season in the best way possible.”
