Inter Miami and Higuaín gain confidence prior to facing FC Barcelona

The David Beckham-owned team defeated Charlotte 3-2 with the Argentine striker scoring his fourth goal of the 2022 MLS campaign.

Update:
Gonzalo Higuaín y Leonardo Campana ponen a Inter Miami en zona de Playoffs

Inter Miami CF is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel after defeating Charlotte 3-2 on Saturday at DRV PNK stadium. Robert Taylor, Gonzalo Higuaín and Emerson Rodríguez scored for the David Beckham-owned team to walk away with the three points and gain confidence ahead of facing FC Barcelona in a friendly fixture on 19 July.

Higuaín in top shape

The Argentine striker has scored in consecutive games and he tallies four goals in 14 appearances so far this campaign. Higuaín has regained a starting role under manager Phil Neville and he should continue to get pitch time when Inter Miami hosts FC Barcelona on Tuesday night in the Clash of the Champions match.

With the latest result, Miami climbed up to ninth place in the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer with seven wins, four draws and nine defeats for 25 points. The team needs to keep adding points to secure a spot in the playoffs this season and a good result against Barça will keep boosting their confidence.

“They’re creating their own culture, they’re creating their own identity,” Neville said. ”And I suppose the identity that we’re seeing is that this team never knows when it’s beat, it never knows when to give up, and it scores late goals. I think they’re a team that scores late goals and never knows when it’s beat. I think it’s a team that’s going to be successful in the future.

“I walked into the cafeteria at nine o’clock after we got our staff meetings and everything, and there were 20, 25 players laughing, joking, energized and it inspired me,” he continued. “I’ve never seen anything like it for a long time.

“Put the ball in the back of the net. It was as simple as that,” Neville stated. “It was put the ball in the back of the net and they did and they always do – they always deliver, they never ever ever let me down as a coach or let this football club down this season since we’ve been playing. They give everything they can. I think they needed that little bit of a jolt at halftime.”
