Inter Miami eye Premier League defender as part of major squad turnover
With Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets set to leave at the end of 2025, Miami need to retool in certain positions.

The 2025 MLS season is approaching a crescendo with the MLS Cup playoffs now just around the corner, but already teams are starting to turn attention to their offseason plans.
Key among those are Inter Miami, the ambitious Eastern Conference side that has already brought a series of top European players to the league. Following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi, Miami lured Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez and, most recently, Rodrigo de Paul to MLS.
However in recent weeks both Alba and Busquets have announced their intention to retire at the end of the 2025 season, bringing their illustrious careers to an end. They will be honored by the team and its fans in their final appearances as professionals but one of their replacements may already have been lined up.
The Athletic reports Inter Miami are in advanced talked with former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilón over a move to South Florida. Reguilón has been out of contract since his previous deal with Spurs expired over the summer.

An attacking left-back, Reguilón would be a like-for-like replacement for the departing Alba. And while his career is not as illustrious as that of the current Miami full-back, Reguilón is only 28 years old and his arrival would be a major coup for Miami.
Reguilón signed a five-year deal with Tottenham in 2020 but fell out of favor long before the end of that contract. He spent time on loan with Atlético Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford but failed to make a meaningful impression at any of those teams.
A move to MLS would represent a new start for a player whose career has stagnated, joining up with the ambitious Inter Miami.
