Inter Miami looking to lock down playoff spot this weekend against Cincinnati
The Herons return to MLS action against FC Cincinnati and will look to avenge the recent 6-1 defeat suffered at TQL Stadium a few weeks ago.
After being eliminated by Columbus Crew in the Leagues Cup, Inter Miami now turn their attention to domestic matters with Tata Martino’s men leading the Eastern Conference and in the fight for the Supporters Shield title.
These are main objectives outlined by the Argentine coach after his side were eliminated in the 2024 Leagues Cup.
This weekend Inter Miami are back in action, albeit without the injured Lionel Messi and aware that a win against second placed side FC Cincinnati would mathematically secure their place in the Playoffs this season, which was one of the team’s main objectives at the start if the season and will also be out to avenge the recent 6-1 defeat at TQL Stadium.
Inter Miami playoff scenarios this weekend
Win against Cincinnati this Saturday
Beating Cincinnati on Saturday would mathematically secure a playoff spot for the side from Florida irrespective of other results.
Draw against Cincinnati and favourable combinations
If Inter Miami draws this weekend, a place in the playoffs could still be secured as long as Atlanta United draw or loses to LA Galaxy (a game which could see Marco Reus make his MLS debut).
A draw against Cincinnati could also give Miami a playoff spot should Orlando City draw or lose against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday or if Charlotte loses or draws against NY Red Bulls.
Finally, if Inter Miami manage to earn a point in the Cincinnati match, a loss for New England Revolution to Montreal or a draw or loss for Toronto to Houston Dynamo will also punch Inter Miami’s playoff ticket.
