Inter Miami - New York City FC: as it happened

FT: Inter Miami 1-1 NYCFC

Aviles heads Miami level

The whistle sounds and points are shared.

We've had the full time allocation.

What an end to the game.

And now Inter Miami ht the bar.

Avilés it was with the header and that is his first MLS goal.

Taylor corner and Martinez nods home for the Herons.

NYCFC on the cusp of just their second away win of the season.

Farias looks to shape and curl the ball but gets under it and drills over.

Poor from the Miami No. 11

There will be seven minutes of added time.

Last minute of the game.

Rodriguez off as Pellegrini is his replacement.

Time running out for Miami.

NYCFC look comfortable and good value for the 0-1 lead.

A defeat here could mean that Miami would have to win all four remaining games to secure a wild card berth.

Is this the game when Inter Miami's outside playoff dream finally evaporates.

Inter Miami still yet to muster a shot on target after more than 80 minutes of football

Taylor on for Kryvstov

Mota has the free but drives over.

Free for Miami as Jasson handles.

The Rodriguez goal

Ten minutes left for Inter Miami to try and salvage something.

NYCFC take the lead.

Santi Rodriguez finds the roof of the night from an acute angle.

Fifteen minutes remain in Forth Lauderdale.

Two changes for Miami

Campana off for Martinez

Arroyo makes way for Mota

NYCFC change

Parks on for Bakrar

VAR check the incident and the card remains as just yellow.

Arroyo is carded and that is a bad, bad tackle with studs showing. Could easily have been red.

Leo Campana has been really quiet tonight and I wouldn't be surprised if he is swapped.

Changes imminent for Miami.

Kryvtsov carded as he clatters into Rodriguez.

Risa takes the free but strikes straight at the Inter Miami stopper.

Rodriguez breaks but Farias grabs the striker's shirt and is carded straight away.

We pass the hour mark in Fort Lauderdale.

The side in pink very much in control.

NYCFC very much second bet now in the second half.

Bizarre scenes as Cremaschi and Arroyo trip up one another as both players were free and marauding on the NYCFC goal.

Big call for a spot kick for Miami as Cremaschi is upended in the box. Ref says no go as Arroyo fires over and Inter Miami are in control now as Busquets has been pushed higher up the field.

Ledezma carded as he hauls Arroyo back.

NYCFC get a shot on target and Callender is forced to save a weak shot from the side in green.

The ball falls to Allen once again and this time the shot is better as it goes inches wide.

The ball falls to Allen from a corner but the Miami No. 32 blazes over.

The second half is underway in Florida.

Congrats Cincy

Ledezma on for NYCFC and the 23-year-old replaces Magno

Sergio Busquets has been well marshalled by NYCFC and the creative outlet for the Herons has suffered and thus deprived the side in pink to get the ball through to the likes of Campana who has been very quiet by his own standards tonight.

After 45 minutes, neither side has managed to muster a shot on target.

The whistle sounds at DRV PNK Stadium after the delayed start and no team able to find a breakthrough.

Into the final minute of the half and neither side can find that all important opening goal.

We'll have 2 minutes of additional time,

Magno has looked good for NYCFC tonight.

We're into the final five minutes of the half.

Still no breakthough at the DRV PNK Stadium.

Aviles is carded as he clips Magno.

Two shots from Inter Miami are blocked as the home side finally show some offensive threat.

Ten minutes of the half remain and still no way through for the home side.

Cremaschi is carded for a clumsy challenge and is the first player in the ref's book.

We pass the half hour mark and NYCFC have had the better chances with Inter Miami yet to register a shot on target.

Possession after half an hour -

Inter Miami 56-44 NYCFC (%)

Bakar almost opens the scoring as Miller delivers a sweet ball and Bakrar stretches but is unable to get a foot on the ball.

The Herons have turned tables and now dominate but have still yet to test Freese in the NY goal.

Better from the home side in the past few minutes.

Ruiz looking good for The Herons tonight.

Nicely worked free from the home side as Farias clips the ball into Campana but the Ecuadorian hits the ball into the arms of the keeper

Quarter of an hour gone in South Florida and still nothing like a clear cut chance as Bakrar drives wide.

The visitors with the better start.

NYCFC with a fine chance as Inter Miami give the ball away and Barkar, stretching steers the ball wide.

Ten minutes gone and Miami struggling to make any inroad into the NYCFC half.

Busquets fouls again and NYCFC players are calling for a card for the Spaniard.

Nothing going for match official Victor Rivas.

Yet again, the free is blazed straight into the wall.

Busquets concedes a free just on the edge of the Inter Miami box.

Rodriguez to take. The wall does its job wall and once again Busquets is late and another free is awarded to the men in green.

All set at DRV PNK Stadium as NYCFC get the game underway.

Can the Herons bounce back after the US Open Cup defeat ?

Inter Miami in pink with tonight's visitors NYCFC in their rather smart third 'Parks kit'.

The teams are on the pitch as kick off finallly looms.

So, an hour later. The threat of lightning has passed and the players will take to the pitch any minute now.

So, we should finally be able to get the action underway in approximately 15 minutes or so.

New kick off established

The game will start approximately an hour later with the start scheduled for 8:32 pm (ET)

Cincinnati have taken the lead against Toronto FC with Vasquez bagging the opener and a win tonight clinching the Supporters Shield for the side from Ohio.

Orlando goal

...and the goal for The Lions scored by Facundo Torres.

With 25 minutes gone in the other five Eastern games, there has only been one goal as Orlando lead Montreal 1-0.

"Weather event" still ongoing

Still no news relating to kickoff in South Florida with the 'weather event' warning still in place.

The other five Easter Conference games are underway and after ten minutes, we've yet to see a goal in any of the matches.

Official confirmation

Thunder and lighning have accompanied the heavy rain, leading for the start of the action to be delayed.

We've just been informed that due to lightning in the Fort Lauderdale area, kick off for Inter Miami-NYCFC has been delayed.

The rain continues to fall in South Florida and with the bulk of the DRV PNK Stadium open to the elements, many fans are taking refuge in the hallways of the stadium.

Gloria Estefan (from Miami Sound Machine) is at DRV PNK Stadium tonight with the singer obviously disappointed that she won't get to see Leo Messi at close quarters

Inter Miami's erratic recent form.

Tata Martino acknowledged after the recent midweek US Open Cup loss that is team are exhausted after an intensive fixture list caused principally by a successful run to the Leagues Cup final.

Inter Miami and NYCFC will be meeting for the second and last time this regular season. The last time the New York-based side visited DRV PNK Stadium was on Aug. 13, 2022, with Inter Miami earning a 3-2 win on the day.

NYCFC remaiming fixtures

A defeat for either team tonight doesn't necessarily mean an end to playoff aspirations but with so many teams in the hut for the final automatic place and the two wild card spots, the loser would face an even sterner test ahead.

The heavens have just opened in South Florida and the players are carrying out their warm up drills under sheets of rain.

We're just 40 minutes away from kick off with the traditional ten minute delay from the previously published.

All six games in the East will start at 7:40 pm (ET)

Another big matchup in the East tonight sees NY Red Bulls vs Chicago with both teams on 34 points and the sides sitting in 11th and 12th respectively.

The NYCFC team are named ahead of the big six pointer tonight in Florida.

Inter Miami XI

Confirmation that Messi is rested again by Miami  as Campana and Farias lead the line for the Herons. Jordi Alba too still battling injury and is absent with just Sergio Busquets from the big three former Barça men getting a start at DRV PNK Stadium tonight.

NYCFC have recorded two draws and two defeats in their past four outings

NYCFC hold ninth position currently which (if the season were to end today) secure a wild card place. The New Yorkers have just three regular season games remaining with Inter Miami facing five games ahead of 21 October Deadline Day.

Inter Miami hub confirms Messi absence

MLS weekend action

Here are all the MLS games lined up for the weekend.

As things stand, just on team in the Western Conference (St Louis) have mathematically secured a postseason place with five teams in the East already planning for the playoffs (Cincinnati, Orlando, Philadelphia, Columbus, Atlanta and NE Revolution).

Messi misses out again

As we wait for the definitive Inter Miami XI, it would appear that no chances are being taken with Messi as the Argentine fails to make the arrival post on the official Twitter account post.

NYCFC set to sport third kit

The side from the Big Apple won't be in their traditional blue tonight but use the game in Florida as a chance to give their eye catching third kit a run out.

The NYCFC 'Parks Kit' has been designed to pay tribute to the city's parks and their significant role in the lives of New Yorkers and the beautiful game.

Messi concerns

“Leo’s case is very specific”, said Javi Morales, the Inter Miami assistant, “we’re going day by day, we were trying until the last minute to see if he could get on for a few minutes in the final, but he couldn’t, so it’s about communication with the doctors and above all Messi himself to see how he feels.

Messi is still struggling to shake off a hamstring issue which has, in part been caused by en excessive demand being placed on the striker who was involved in all Inter Miami's Leagues Cup games and also starred in Argentina's World Cup 2026 qualifier against Ecuador.

With 5 games to go of the regular season, Inter Miami have had to play the last two without the World Cup winner in their XI. Today, they face another test as they welcome NYCFC at the DRV PNK Stadium, and they will do so with a squad that has dropped in form since their seemingly unstoppable phase before the latest international break when they stormed to a Leagues Cup win.

Hello and welcome to our live MLS coverage as Inter Miami face NYCFC as both teams desperately need maximum points to keep their dreams of a playoff place alive.
