Inter Miami: Sergio Busquets injury update
Busquets was taken off in the friendly against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo.
Inter Miami received a scare in Tokyo when Sergio Busquets had to withdraw midway through the first half of the game against Vissel Kobe after a blow to his ankle. AS understands that initial tests have ruled out serious damage to the player’s ankle, pending further tests.
“The injury did not appear to be serious before landing in Florida,” sources close to the club said. Busquets had some swelling in the area of the blow, but this is one of the usual after-effects of such a collision and the former Barcelona man is expected to undergo further tests over the weekend.
Tata Martino’s squad will have a couple of days rest before returning to training after being away from home for over 20 days. The match against Newell’s will be the team’s last test before the league opener against Real Salt Lake on 21 February. Until then, Busquets will be a doubt.
Miami’s treatment room
While Busquets’ injury does not appear to be serious, the player could still be out for several days. With the Spaniard out of action, Inter Miami’s treatment room is getting busier. Facu Farias was the first player down after rupturing a ligament in the opener against El Salvador and he will miss the entire season. He was later joined by Benja Cremaschi, who underwent surgery a few days ago for a hernia that will keep him out for two to three months.
All eyes are now on Leo Messi and Luis Suárez. The Argentinian played just eight minutes against Al-Nassr and none against Hong Kong, much to the anger of the home crowd, and the World Cup winner is still undergoing treatment to avoid any future scares after having muscle complaints. The Uruguayan’s case is more related to his chronic knee problems. Since his time at Barcelona, he has been a victim of severe pain caused by playing matches.
