One of the most interesting games on the third matchday of the Champions League takes place at San Siro, as Inter Milan hosts Barcelona on Tuesday night.

It certainly is the most important match for both teams till now, as a victory for any of them could make the difference in Group G’s future, taking into account they both lost to German giants Bayern Munich and defeated Viktoria Plzen.

The Nerazzurri go into the match in a difficult situation, having endured their worst Serie A start in 11 years, sitting ninth with four wins and four losses.

Last weekend Inter lost at home to AS Roma after the hosts let slip a one-goal advantage to lose 1-2 at the end of the 90 minutes. It was Inter’s first loss to the Giallorossi since 2017.

San Siro, a fortress for Inter despite losing to Roma

However, playing against Simone Inzaghi’s men at San Siro is no walk in the park: before losing to Roma, they had won each of their last seven home games in the league, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and his board face their first real test of the season against the Italians, after spending lots of millions through economic levers this summer to make a competitive team in Spain and Europe.

The bad news for the visitors is that two key defenders -Ronald Araújo and Jules Koundé- are injured and won’t play in Milan.

Barcelona: the moment of truth has come

Despite the injury issues, Barça coach Xavi Hernández will probably be confident about his team’s possibilities, as the Blaugranes moved to the top of LaLiga table 836 days later.

The Catalan powerhouses defeated Mallorca (0-1) and their archrivals Real Madrid couldn’t defeat Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu, so both teams are now tied on points but Barcelona are sitting first on goal difference.

Xavi’s men have now won six successive league matches since drawing on the opening day and their forward star Robert Lewandowski is the competition’s top scorer with nine goals.
