Is Erling Haaland in the Manchester City team? Haaland out of Liverpool game
The Norwegian striker missed the international break due to a groin injury and is out of the Premier League clash with the Reds.
Erling Haaland is not in the Manchester City squad to face Liverpool this afternoon in a major blow to Pep Guardiola’s side.
The in-form strike continues to struggle with the injury that kept him out of the Norwegian squad during the recent international break. Haaland picked up a groin injury in City’s FA Cup win over Burnley and the City manager has decided not to risk him ahead of crucial Champions League games against Bayern Munich.
Guardiola has opted to play Argentinian World Cup winner Julian Alvarez in his place. The young forward will be flanked by Riyhad Mahrez and Jack Grealish in the City attack.
Haaland has been in incredible form this year
The Norwegian striker has been in incredible form since his switch to the Etihad Stadium last summer. Pep Guardiola’s side have won four league titles in the last five years but Haaland’s introduction has undoubtedly altered the composition of the City side.
Manchester City have dipped slightly from their imperious form in recent seasons but Haaland has hit the ground running in England and broken countless record since his transfer last summer.
He currently stands on 28 goals in just 26 games and is on track to smash the record for most goals in a single Premier League season.
With five goals against RB Leipzig last month Haaland reached 39 goals in a City shirt, breaking the 94-year club record for goals in a season. During that 7-0 win Haaland also reached 30 Champions League goals, making him the youngest player to reach that milestone.
