Is Shakira’s new song ‘Monotonia’ an open letter to her ex, Gerard Piqué?

The Colombian released a new song with Ozuna and in the lyrics you can see phrases like “you left me because of your narcissism,” which raises questions.

Is Shakira’s new song ‘Monotonia’ an open letter to her ex, Gerard Piqué?

October 19 was the day chosen by Shakira and Ozuna for the release of their new song. Under the title of Monotonia (simply translated as ‘monotony’) the two artists collaborated on a song that promises to become a hit on the charts across much of the world. That said, controversy and intrigue has followed, as has become customary in recent months, with the Colombian’s followers examining the lyrics with a magnifying glass to try to find some hint, message or assessment linked to her break-up with Gerard Piqué, her partner for more than a decade and with whom she has two children.

Shakira’s new song suggests some Piqué feelings

Thank you to Ozu and all of you for the support and love you have given me from the shooting to the release of this song. I hope you like it”, shared the girl from Barranquilla on social media.

And she’s been sharing clues in recent weeks, some of them generating gossip around the Barcelona footballer. It began with the small segment of the lyrics, “It wasn’t your fault” from the song ‘I congratulate you’. That got tongues wagging.

But if the I congratulate you has already given a lot to talk about, it is nothing compared to what it is generating Monotony. And it is that in the video clip that Shakira has released, she appears with a hole in her chest, empty, with her heart in her hand. And so if that were not enough, there are some phrases that make the song seem like a letter addressed directly to Gerard Piqué.

Suddenly you were no longer the same”, “you left me because of your narcissism”, “I was running for someone who wasn’t even walking for me”, “it’s a necessary goodbye” or “you forgot what one day we were ”, are some of the messages that the Colombian sings.

Lyrics of Monotonia, the new song by Shakira and Ozuna

It wasn't your fault, nor was it mine

It was the monotony's fault

I never said anything, but it hurt me

I knew this would happen

You on your thing, me doing the same

Always looking for prominence

You forgot what we once were

And the worst thing is that...

It wasn't your fault, nor was it mine

It was the monotony's fault

I never said anything, but it hurt me

I knew this would happen.

Suddenly you weren't the same

You left me because of your narcissism

You forgot what we once were

Hey, hey, hey

You distant with your attitude

And that filled me with anxiety

You didn't give even half

But I do know that I gave more than you

I was running for someone

He wasn't even walking for me

This love is not dead

But he's delusional

Of what there was, there is no more

I'm telling you honestly

To’ is cold like Christmas

This better be over now

Don't repeat the movie to me again, I already saw that one

I love you, but I love myself more

It's a necessary goodbye

What was once incredible became routine

Your lips don't taste like anything to me

Now it's the opposite

And the worst thing is that...

It wasn't your fault, nor was it mine

It was the monotony's fault

I never said anything, but it hurt me

I knew this would happen

You on your thing, me doing the same

Always looking for prominence

And you forgot what we once were

Hey, hey, hey.
