Is Wayne Rooney interested in the Everton job?
The Premier League side sacked Frank Lampard earlier this week and the former Manchester United legend could take over the job.
Wayne Rooney returned in the summer of 2022 to manage DC United after leaving the club in 2019 to spend time with his family. The former Manchester United legend became the highest paid manager, earning $1 million annually, in the history of the club and he is trying to make the MLS side one of the top teams in the league.
Rooney being tempted by Everton
DC United has started their pre-season under the English manager ahead of the start of the 2023 campaign that is set to begin at the end of February. As Wayne Rooney is preparing the team for the beginning of the season there are reports that Everton wants him to take over the managerial job after sacking Frank Lampard.
The Toffees are facing relegation and they sit in the 19th place in the standings with 15 points after 20 fixtures. Everton is desperately in need of a manager that could bring them out of the bottom of the table and they believe that Wayne Rooney is the right man for the job, the 37-year-old had two spells as a player with the Toffees.
Per report, the English manager is not too keen to assume the job just six months left of the Premier League season. This wouldn’t be the first time Rooney declines to manage Everton because he was the first option before Lampard was appointed 12 months ago. “Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job,” said Rooney at the time.
“But I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100 percent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me,” added Rooney back in the 2021/22 campaign.
