The Italian and Turkish soccer federations have revealed that they will launch a joint bid to host the 2032 edition of the European Championships. Turkey had originally declared their interest in hosting either the 2028 or 2032 edition alone, with Italy doing so for the latter tournament. However, the two countries have withdrawn their initial interest and requested to join forces for 2032. They must now submit new documentation which complies with the bidding requirements.

Which countries have bid to host Euro 2028?

As a result of Turkey’s withdrawal, the only confirmed bid for the 2028 tournament comes from the United Kingdom and Ireland (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). The final stages of the pan-European 2020 tournament, postponed to 2021 because of the covid-19 pandemic, were played at Wembley in London, while two group matches and one round of 16 game was played at Hampden Park in Glasgow. England also hosted Euro 1996.

Which countries have bid to host Euro 2032?

As things stand, Italy and Turkey are sole bidders for 2032, as 2018 World Cup hosts Russia saw their interest thrown out by UEFA due to the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

When will the hosts for Euro 2028 and Euro 2032 be announced?

With the deadline to host both tournaments having passed all the way back in March 2022, there are unlikely to be any surprises when the hosts for 2028 and 2032 are announced on 10 October.

Like the 2024 event, which will be held in Germany in June and July next year, 24 teams are due to take part, with the constant expansion of the tournament having seen the number of joint bids increase in recent times.
