James Rodríguez was one of the highlights in Néstor Lorenzo’s early charge of the Colombian national team. The midfielder was the author of one of the goals in the victory against Guatemala and then played the first half against Mexico on Tuesday. Given the good results, the 31-year-old player was feeling hopeful about the new process.

James congratulates teammates

After the second game, in which Colombia cameback from being behind to win 3-2, James congratulated his teammates on social media. The Olympiacos midfielder was one of the players replaced to turn the result around and his place on the field was taken by Jorge Carrascal, who assisted Luis Sinisterra to make it 2-2, the Leeds man going on to net the winner.

‘Excited about the future,’ he wrote alongside a picture of the squad. “Let’s keep preparing and improving. Great game, lads.”

James figures early in Néstor Lorenzo era

In the first friendly match, which Colombia won 4-1 against Guatemala, James was one of the highest rated, behind only Matheus Uribe. That included getting on the scoresheet himself.

Against Mexico, the team did not perform as expected in the first half, the only period played by Rodríguez. In the 46 minutes that he was on the pitch, he made three key passes, he was effective in the attacking transition, completing his four attempts. In addition, he exceeded 90% in passing success.

James returns to Greece

After the FIFA break, in which he played a total of 136 minutes, the Colombian midfielder returns to Greece to join the squad led by Míchel González. The next match for Olympiacos will be on Sunday, October 2 against Atromitos Athinon for round 6 of the Greek league and James is expected to be involved.
