RAYO VALLECANO
James Rodriguez set to play with Rayo Vallecano next season
After severing ties with Brazil’s Sao Paulo, the Colombian attacking midfielder is a free agent and was in Vallecas on Friday finalising a move to the LaLiga club.
After impressing with Colombia at the recent Copa America, it looks like James Rodriguez is set for a return to LaLiga four years after he finally packed his bags leaving Real Madrid after a loan spell with Bayern Munich.
Unsettled is probably the best way to describe the subsequent chapter in his career with brief and somewhat underwhelming spells with Everton (England), Al Rayyan (Qatar), Olympiakos in Greece before winding up in Brazil.
Undoubtedly the best performances from the 33-year-old have come wearing the yellow national team jersey and his presence saw ‘Los Cafeteros’ secure a final berth at the 2024 Copa America only to fall to Argentina in the final.
Despite being earlier linked with a move to Getafe earlier the summer, it appears that the player will return to the Spanish capital but this time wearing the red and white of Rayo Vallecano where the No. 10 jersey awaits.
Relevo journalist Jorge Picon broke the news on Saturday that James Rodriguez and Rayo Vallecano have reached terms with the move just requiring the formality of a contract with the Colombian having spent the past few days in Madrid looking at accomodation for his family.
Rayo was the home for another Colombian legend with Radamel Falcao spending three seasons at the Vallecas side before a securing a return this summer to his homeland with Millonarios.
