Japan vs Brazil: preview
Fresh from thrashing South Korea in Seoul, Brazil now face another international friendly in Asia as they go to Tokyo to take on Japan.
On Thursday, two penalties from Neymar, together with goals by Richarlison, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus, earned a 5-1 win for Tite’s men, who are undefeated since losing the Copa América final to Argentina last July.
Japan also head into Monday’s clash on an unbeaten run, having won seven and drawn one since going down to Saudi Arabia in World Cup qualifying in October.
Hajime Moriyasu’s side, who like Brazil will be at the World Cup later this year, continued their preparations for Qatar 2022 with a 4-1 friendly thumping of Paraguay three days ago, courtesy of strikes by Takuma Asano, Daichi Kamada, Kaoru Mitoma and Ao Tanaka.
Japan have never beaten Japan; indeed, they have lost their past six meetings with the Seleção, going back to 2005. When the sides last faced off, in a 2017 friendly in Lille, the Brazilians saw off the Samurai Blue 3-1.
