Jared Borgetti comes to Guillermo Ochoa’s defence
The 89 times capped international, came to defend the Mexican stopper after being on the wrong end of boos from Mexico fans during the Jamaica game.
Mexican fans demonstrated their unhappiness with the national team last Sunday at the Azteca Stadium with the brunt of the frustration being aimed at keeper Guillermo Ochoa. Former Mexico international and now television pundit Jared Borgetti came out in defence of the goalkeeper, saying he doesn’t understand the booing of the stopper.
During the broadcast of ESPN’s Futbol Picante, Borguetti commented: “In the case of Memo Ochoa, every time he touched the ball people booed him and I really don’t understand the desire to boo a goalkeeper who has given us countless great joys.
Despite making a series of key saves for El Tri, Ochoa was booed by the more than 60,000 people who gathered at the Azteca Stadium. However, the goalkeeper was not the only one singled out by the home fans as Raul Jimenez, Jorge Sanchez and Diego Lainez were also singled out by the fans and Jared added that Mexican fans have a short memory.
“It’s something unfortunately the Mexican fans are very clear on many occasions, they boo Mexican footballers when they don’t like something. And they forget very quickly what that player could have given for Mexico in the past ,” he said.
Chucky Lozano lashes out at the press
One of the players who raised his voice after the booing at the Azteca Stadium was Hirving Lozano, who blamed the media for the estrangement between the public and the team. “I think they have to support us, they have to be with us the relationship between the fans and us,” he told TUDN.
