Jesse Marsch: “Christian Pulisic is the biggest talent in our country”

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has spoken about Christian Pulisic following reports suggesting he could leave Chelsea before the end of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United, currently in talks for new recruits before the window shuts, could loan the USMNT captain for the 2022/23 season, according to Andy Mitten of The Athletic.

“Christian, I think, is a big, big talent - the biggest in our country. The expectations for someone like him - transfer fees, clubs he’s been at - are very high and I think he’s met a lot of those high expectations. But you know, I think with his talent that people are continuing to demand more from him and it’s normal in some ways,” Marsch said on Friday.

“I’ve never had the chance to work with him. I’ve only played or competed against him and he’s scored, I think, every time I’ve coached against him - he’s frickin scored!

“So I don’t have too many negative criticisms about him but I would enjoy the chance to work with him at some point whether it’s with the national team in the distant future or whatever. I think he’s a big talent. I like his personality. He’s scored in a Champions League semi-final. He’s created a lot of firsts for American players. So I think respect for him is very high in our country.”

Pulisic has one eye on World Cup with USMNT

Pulisic is frustrated with his lack of game time under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and wants a move to stay sharp ahead of the 2022 World Cup this winter. Atlético Madrid, Juventus and Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the former Borussia Dortmund forward.

The 23-year-old’s current deal at Stamford Bridge runs until 2024.
