Jesús Corona bids Cruz Azul farewell after 28 tournaments
The Mexican goalkeeper joined the club in July 2009 and became a club legend, making 452 appearances for the club.
José de Jesús Corona took to social media to express his gratitude for everything that he experienced during his time at Cruz Azul and to personally say goodbye to the fans who have accompanied him all the way.
The goalkeeper started out with Atlas, moved to UAG Tecos in 2004, then spent a year on loan at Chivas before returning to UAG. After serving in the various teams in Jalisco, he joined Cruz Azul in July 2009 and became the team’s first-choice between t.
The 42-year-old played 504 official matches with La Máquina; 45,280 minutes consecrated him as a historical icon.
He won seven different trophies during his time at the club - among them, the 2020-21 Clausura is the stand-out achievement as it ended the drought of over 20 years without winning the competition.
Chuy was under contract until 30 June 2023 at Cruz Azul but could not reach an agreement with the club to renew it and therefore leaves as a free agent. According to various media outlets, Corona’s next destination will be Tijuana, where he will play the Apertura 2023.
