João Félix has made a decision on Atlético future
The Portugal international confirmed what he told AS last week. Neither the player nor the club have plans to change the current situation.
João Félix needs to step up convert himself into the team’s leader at Atlético. The Portugal international has suffered his fair share of ups and downs, and doubts, but right now, the general consensus is that he should remain with the first team next season. He confirmed what he told AS last week during an appearance in his homeland. When asked whether he was contemplating leaving Atlético, he gave a very clear reply. “Leaving Atlético isn’t on the table. I am happy and focused at Atlético. And I’m relaxed about the future. I know what I am capable of and I’m happy within myself. I’m still on holiday. I’ve just started training again to prepare for the start of the pre-season but I’m not thinking too much about football right now,” the player explained.
The 22-year-old drew positive conclusions about everything that he’s been through since leaving Benfica to join Atleti in the summer of 2019. He says his three years in the Spanish capital helped him to develop as a player and mature as a person. “Of course I am much more mature now. It’s been four years (sic) since I left Benfica and I have grown physically, technically and mentally. It’s only natural that you evolve. I’ve been doing things the right way so that I continue to get better,” he added. But for João Félix, he is now very tired of having to answer questions about his 120 euro price tag, making him the most expensive signing in Atlético’s history. “I have never thought about how much I cost! I’ve always said that it’s other people who determine what someone is worth. It’s not something I ever think about, I just focus on my job,” he told Maisfutebol.
