Atlético Madrid’s João Félix will become a Chelsea player in the coming hours, provided he passes a medical. The former Benfica attacker will sign for the Blues on loan until the end of the season, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, in an agreement which will see the London club pay Atlético Madrid total of €11 million, which includes Félix’s net wages of €5-6 million per year. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that the loan deal had been done on Twitter.

Informal negotiations began on Sunday and became more official on Monday, as already reported by AS. An agreement between Chelsea and the Portugal international has also been reached, with Félix heading to London on Tuesday to dot the I’s and cross the t’s on his loan contract with the Premier League club. All parties wanted negotiations to be concluded as quickly as possible in order to avoid a drawn-out transfer saga and, as a result, Félix’s loan move will be made official on Tuesday.

Do Chelsea have an option to buy João Félix?

The Blues will take over the 23-year-old’s full wages for the remainder of the season in a loan deal which does not include an option buy. However, before formalising the agreement, Atlético Madrid require one condition to be met which is not expected to be an obstacle; Félix must extend his contract, which expiries in 2026, for another year, to reduce the annual amortisation cost.
