Ahead of Saturday’s MLS Cup, the Disciplinary Committee has has sanctioned Jordi Alba for violating league policies in the Eastern Conference final win over New York City FC.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has hit the Spaniard with an undisclosed fine for violating league policy regarding hands to the face/neck of an opposition player. He has not been given any sporting punishment, which could have ruled him out of the MLS Cup clash with Vancouver Whitecaps this weekend.

The Inter Miami - Vancouver Whitecaps final will be the last game of Alba’ professional career, a chance to end on a high in front of home support at Chase Stadium. Both he and long-time teammate Sergio Busquets announced their intention to retire at the end of the 2025 season.

Alba can consider himself slightly lucky to have escaped with only a fine, particularly given that it is not his first disciplinary issue in Miami.

Earlier this year he and Lionel Messi were suspended for one game for skipping the league’s All-Star Game without a valid reason. He was previously fined for violating the hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent policy during an MLS game against the Houston Dynamo back in March.
