Jorge Vilda could be sacked as Spain Women’s National Team head coach this Monday
The sacking may take place before the meeting that the interim president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, has with the Government.
The still-current coach of the Women’s National Team, Jorge Vilda, could leave his position this Monday 4 August, Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) sources have informed radio station, Cadena SER.
The sacking may occur before the meeting that the interim president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, has with the Government prior to the men’s team’s trip to Georgia for the Euro qualification match that they are set to play this Friday. It was also reported that Vilda had requested a job in the RFEF.
Vilda was thrust into the spotlight after he applauded then-RFEF president, Luis Rubiales, at the assembly held on August 25. The same day, the 23 World Cup winners, along with 58 teammates, all signed a statement in which they refused to be called up as long as the current structure and staff remained as part of the Federation. Furthermore, a day later, eleven members of Vilda’s technical staff resigned from their position.
RFEF met with the players on Monday
After winning the World Cup, Jorge Vilda had emerged reinforced in terms of his tactical decisions after experiencing a critical moment as a coach with the news of the 15 players who refused to be called up. Addressed to the upper echelons of the RFEF, the players protested against the coach and asked for various improvements, refusing to be a part of the squad until the situation improved.
Rocha met with the players this Monday to ask for unity and concentration ahead of the two qualifying matches, and also to explain to them the context in which the RFEF currently sits. Specifically, he wants the group to isolate itself from the political situation that the Federation is experiencing, with Rubiales provisionally suspended by FIFA for his kiss with Jenni Hermoso after the World Cup final.
Is Rubiales suspended as president of the RFEF?
Following the court (TAD) ruling, which considered that the former president’s actions were “serious” instead of “very serious,” Spain’s Ministry for Sport (CSD) sent a request to the court to suspend Rubiales for possible abuse of authority as well as notorious and public acts that violate dignity or decorum. He had already been provisionally suspended by FIFA for 90 days.
Just a few hours ago, the Players’ Association (AFE) asked the CSD to expel Jaime Caravaca from the TAD, nephew of Ramón Caravaca, external lawyer for the RFEF and Rubiales. The union had already asked a week ago to abstain from participating in the ‘Rubiales case’.
