Jozy Altidore has seen plenty of minutes with the United States men’s national team registering 42 goals and 14 assists in 115 appearances across all competitions. The 32-year-old is considered one of the most important US strikers in the past decade and passed Eric Wynalda for third on the all-time USMNT scoring list.

The Puebla FC striker has not received a call-up since Gregg Berhalter took over the managerial job in 2018 after the United States failed to qualify for the World Cup that year. Altidore is aware that his time with the USMNT has come to an end and believes the younger generation is ready to step up in the most important tournament in the world.

Altidore on Zendejas

After Club América eliminated Puebla from the Liguilla, Jozy Altidore decided to take a picture with United States-eligible Alejandro Zendejas and post it with a caption that read: “We need you in Qatar.” The 32-year-old striker would like the Club América winger to be included in the final roster that will travel to Qatar next month.

Last month the USMNT head coach, Gregg Berhalter, confirmed that Alejandro Zendejas is on his radar as FIFA continues to investigate his case with Mexico. We will have to wait until 9 November, when Berhalter is expected to announce the 26-player roster that will represent the US in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Zendejas is building a case for himself to receive a call-up, and so far in this tournament, he has scored 10 goals for Club América, and he has helped the team reach the semifinals.
