Colombian forward Juan Fernando Quintero wants to leave his current club, Junior FC and try his luck outside his native country. According to a number of journalists and reports close to the Quintero, the situation triggered an unexpected meeting between the player and Fuad Char, the club’s majority shareholder.

Journalist Juan José Buscalia, who works for Argentine radio station BLU, explained what he knows about the circumstance that has brought two offers to the 30-year-old professional’s table. ”I have heard various versions of the story,” he explained. “Last night I spoke to someone within Juanfer’s inner circle, who told me that this has been going on for a long time. He has an offer from the Middle East and another from Cruz Azul. There is a growing number of clubs who are keen to take him”.

Another broadcast journalist, Fabio Poveda claimed that Quintero’s hope to move on has forced high-ranking officials in Barranquilla to step in to calm the situation and hopefully change the player’s mind.

Juanfer requested to terminate his contract with Junior, but legally, he still belongs to the club. It’s true that his agent has already contacted the club and asked to rescind the contract. Fuad Char wants to talk to ‘Bolillo’ Gómez to calm the waters and iron out any rough edges. He wants to improve the relationship but the way I see it, it’s going to be be very difficult for Fuad Char to do that,” he explained.

Poveda revealed that there is an agreement between the board of directors and the player which states that he can leave if a significant offer comes in.

It’s not written in the contract, it’s a verbal agreement. Fuad Char has given his word that if a decent proposal came in for ‘Juanfer’, he would be free to leave. The player has gone straight to the highest shareholder to make it known that he wants to leave,“ Poveda said.

The Medellín-born striker joined Junior in January and is under contract until 31 December. He has played a total of six games for the rojiblancos and scored one goal - he missed 14 games due to a calf injury.
