Julián Quiñones, Atlas’ 5th top scorer in short tournaments
He found the target against Cruz Azul in the 2022 Apertura and on two other occasions during his time with Lobos BUAP.
Atlas will be looking to Colombian striker Julián Quiñones to find the net in Saturday’s playoff against Cruz Azul. His record against the Cementeros isn’t particularly great - he has scored just one goal against them in the four tournaments he has played with the Rojinegros and overall, during the eight years he has been in Mexico, he has only managed another two - both in the 2017 Apertura tournament when he was playing for Lobos BUAP.
No one denies that Quiñones will be one of the players to keep an eye on when the two teams take to the field at the Azteca - he could play a decisive role in getting Atlas through to the quarter finals. He is the fifth top scorer in the club’s history in short tournaments with 33 goals, behind only Daniel Osorno with 69 in 320 games, Juan Pablo Rodríguez with 60 goals in 216 games, Hugo Castillo - 53 goals in 148 games and Miguel Zepeda - 44 goals in 171 games. Quiñones reached his tally of 33 goals in 78 games.
Atlas’ top scorer of all-time in all competitions is Edwin Cubero with 88 goals. The Costa Rican forward spent several seasons at the club, playing a key role in guiding the team to their first championship in 1950-51.
