Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the first half of the club’s Premier League opener against Burnley on Friday.

The Belgian midfielder was taken off midway through the first half of City’s 3-0 win at Turf Moor with a suspected hamstring injury.

“We have to decide his surgery. It will be a few months out,” Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Super Cup final against Sevilla.

He added: “We will decide in the next days. Surgery is surgery. Three or four months out.”

Champions League final exit

De Bruyne was also replaced during the 2023 Champions League final against Italian opponents Inter Milan after suffering a hamstring injury.

Replacing De Bruyne in Fantasy Premier League

De Bruyne is a major loss for Pep Guardiola and he will also be a loss to thousands of Fantasy Premier League managers. So who do you get in to replace the City creator?

Some of the top midfield options for your team are:

  • Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
  • Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
  • Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
  • James Maddison (Tottenham Hotspur)
  • Sandro Tonali (Newcastle United)

Saka, Fernandes and Rashford are all set for big seasons and work out as cheaper options than De Bruyne so you will add to your bank account.

Maddison and Tonali both impressed on their respective debuts with their new clubs and could slot into your midfield for Gameweek 2 if you have an injured De Bruyne still sitting in your squad.

When is the Super Cup final?

City face Europa League winners Sevilla in the Super Cup final in Athens on Wednesday night and will be hoping to win their first silverware of the season.
