Key dates as new Liga MX 2024 Clausura season gets underway

Reigning champions Club América will be the team to beat as Queretaro and Toluca kick-start the action for the new season.

Liga MX is back!

Matchday one of the new Clausura 2024 tournament kicks off on Friday (12 January) as Querétaro face Toluca at the Estadio Corregidora.

Club America will be the side to be again with last season’s champions only losing two games during the Apertura with an opening defeat at home to FC Juarez and the Aguilas also slipping up at home to San Luis but did have a five goal cushion from the first leg in their Liguilla clash.

Clausura 2024 - key dates

The eleventh matchday of the campaign will see a re-run of the Apertura 2023 final as América and Tigres go head-to-head with the game likely to be staged at the Estadio Azul in Mexico City with World Cup 2026 renovation work on the Estadio Azteca set to commence in February.

A week later the Clásico Nacional between Guadalajara and América takes centre stage with the clash set to be played at Estadio Akron, while the Clásico Regio between Rayados and Tigres will take place on matchday 15 at Estadio BBVA.

The regular season ends on 28 April and once again sides who finish from 7th through to tenth will head to the Play-in round to determine which sides join the top six in the Liguilla.

There will be a total of 153 games played in the regular season and 17 post-season contests which include Play-in, quarter final games along with the semifinals and two legged final.

As for Liga Expansion MX, the Clausura 2024 tournament of the second division in Mexico kicked off as Cimarrones and Leones Negros faced one another last Tuesday. The second tier of Mexican soccer will see a total of 122 matches, with 105 regular phase matches and 17 final phase matches set to be played.
